Effective Tuesday, March 4, Cuivre River Electric Cooperative is utilizing a new SMS texting number for outage alerts, restoration updates, balance and usage notifications, payment notifications, and more.

If you are signed up to receive alerts from CREC via text, you may have noticed that these messages arrive from a short code of six numbers, 352667. As of March 4, your alerts will come from 636-255-8936.

This change to a more locally based number strengthens the security of CREC’s system by making it more difficult for spammers to target our members.

“We understand the importance of timely and reliable communication, especially during power outages,” said Vice President of Member Engagement and Technology Chris Ryan. “This change allows us to send critical information directly to our members’ mobile devices while protecting our messaging system from spammers.”

There are no operational changes to our system. The only difference CREC members will see is their text alerts coming from a different number. If you have already opted in to receive text alerts, you will not have to opt in again.
