The Cuivre River Electric Community Trust Board met in June and awarded $28,740 in grants funded through Operation Round Up.
Health grants were awarded to nine individuals/families from Bowling Green, Lake Saint Louis, St. Peters, Troy, Weldon Spring, Wentzville, and Wright City, including support for a developmentally disabled individual to attend Camp Wonderland this summer; help with medical supplies/equipment for two autistic/special needs children, support for a disabled woman in need of a motorized wheelchair, and helping a family with some unexpected expenses related to the installation of an elevator for moving their disabled child within their multi-level home. Community organizations that received grants included:
- NECAC (North East Community Action Corporation) — $7,000 to help support the organization’s energy assistance program that serves members in need in the CREC service area.
- The Child Advocacy Center — $1,605 to fund the purchase of life-size dolls that are used as part of interviews with abused children, to help them communicate about their abuse.
- Eagle’s Wings — $2,500 to support the organization’s “shopping days” program for children of families who have experienced homelessness or other hardships and need clothing and shoes.
- Boy Scouts of America — $4,250 to support camper scholarships for children in CREC service areas to be able to attend the organization’s summer camp programs.
- Warren County Health Partnership — $3,272 to help buy air conditioning units and fans for the organization’s “Beat the Heat” program applicants in need who do not meet the criteria of other existing programs.
- Warren County Ambulance District — $1,417 for the purchase of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) adult and infant size mannequins for their training program.
