She’s now providing an opportunity through the vision of Hanani House to provide recovery support, resources and housing for those facing alcoholism or drug addiction.

Four years ago, she founded Hanani House, which has recovery homes in Augusta, Washington and Florissant. In 2022, the nonprofit organization provided recovery housing for 23 women and 16 men.

The word “Hanani” translates into “God gratifies,” or “God is gracious.” “God has done for us what was impossible for us to do,” Hankins said.

Hanani House was recently awarded a $2,400 Operation Round Up grant. The funds will be used to lease a second home in Augusta, increasing its bedding capacity from five to nine.

As part of the recovery program, participants must follow certain guidelines, including accountability, finding employment, attending meetings and having a sponsor.
“They need a lot of support to do it,” Hankins said.
