In 2023, CREC members received 17% of their power from renewable sources — 13% wind power and 4% hydropower.

The Green Power program, offered in partnership with CREC’s generation cooperative, Associated Electric Cooperative Inc., gives members an option to buy renewable energy credits for up to 100% of their energy usage.

Purchasing power through Green Power means that you can secure a portion of wind power generated in our region for delivery to the power grid — for you, for 12 months.

To participate, you will be required to purchase a minimum of one, 100 kilowatt-hour block each month for $1. While you can request to purchase additional blocks each month, the number of kilowatt-hours purchased cannot exceed your average monthly usage.

When you sign up, you agree to a 12-month commitment which is noted on your account. CREC accepts new participants at any time during the year but new contracts will only start in January or July. To learn more, click here or contact our Member Services Department at 800-392-3709.
