Area high school sophomores will have an opportunity to attend an expanded Missouri Electric Cooperative CYCLE program this summer.

An extra day has been added for CYCLE, which stands for Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience
This year’s conference will be held July 16-19 in Jefferson City.

One of the days will include a day trip to St. Louis for delegates. In the past, the CYCLE program had been held over three days.

Cuivre River Electric Cooperative will sponsor six high school sophomores who are leaders and want to make a difference in their communities.

A number of speakers and other activities are planned throughout the conference as some of the brightest young leaders across the state are brought together.

CYCLE is open to high school sophomores who live and attend school in CREC’s general service area, or who have the co-op’s service in their homes. Local teachers are invited to nominate sophomore students to serve as CYCLE delegates, or students may apply independently.

As part of the application process, sophomore students are asked to submit a narrative about their school activities and community service. Applications are available here, at CREC offices in Troy and Lake Saint Louis, and at local high schools.

The application deadline is April 17. A panel of judges will select six CYCLE delegates, and the names will be announced on May 10.

The CYCLE program is in its 21st year and is a past recipient of the National Community Youth Service award for the top youth program among all electric cooperatives in the country.
