Save on pest control with Pesky Critters

While spiders, ants, mosquitoes, raccoons, squirrels, opossums and groundhogs are all different creatures, there’s one thing they all have in common — they can be a nuisance when invading our space.

But for Jeremy Goins, all of these creatures help him earn a living — Goins operates Pesky Critters Pest Control of Troy with his mother, Sandra. Members have been saving money since 2008 when Pesky Critters partnered with Cuivre River as a charter member of the Co-op Connections Card discount program.

The business was started in 1990 by Goins’ late father, Dennis, and advanced to a full-time operation in 2005. Goins was employed as a crane operator when his dad approached him about joining forces.

“He started bugging me to work with him and I began helping part-time in 2010, especially with wildlife,” he said. “By 2013, I was employed here full-time.”

Pesky Critters’ busiest time of year usually runs from early April until Thanksgiving, and Goins says calls are usually always about a nuisance bug.

“During June, we hear a lot about spiders, ants and mosquitoes,” he says.

Other creatures that Pesky Critters has helped customers with include moles, bedbugs, mice and termites. With the range of critters Goins has dealt with, he has plenty of unique stories about catching them live.

“I’ve had to go into a church attic and use a catch pole to remove a slightly angry raccoon,” he said. Twice he has had to eliminate skunks from warehouses by funneling them into a trap for removal.

No matter the pest removal challenge, Goins proudly says, “We’re built on customer service. Killing bugs is secondary.”

Pesky Critters services homes and businesses in Lincoln, Pike, Warren and portions of St. Charles counties. Quarterly residential pest control plus monthly commercial pest control is available, as well as one-time treatments to help control mosquitoes for outdoor events or parties.
