In late summer each year, Cuivre River Electric Cooperative issues capital credit checks to those members entitled to a refund. Capital credits, similar to profit margins in other businesses, represent members’ ownership equity. They are allocated after the close of a fiscal year if funds remain after all expenses for providing electric services have been met.

This year, thanks to an upgrade to the capital credits database, active members entitled to a refund will now be able to choose how their capital credit funds (if applicable*) are disbursed to them each year. Members can choose to continue receiving a check in the mail as in past years, or can opt for having their refund amount applied directly to their primary CREC electric account. By choosing the latter, the funds are applied automatically, which eliminates the need to take a physical check to the bank.

If you are interested in having your capital credit refund applied to your primary account starting in 2020 and beyond, please contact the CREC office at 800-392-3709, Option 3.

*For members who receive a capital credit of less than $15 or who have a 30-day past-due balance, the refund will automatically be posted as an energy bill credit to their account.
